This piece is about resilience and the ability to make sense of disorder, even when it feels overwhelming.

Pearl St Yearning

Pearl St Yearning captures a deeply personal memory of childhood dreams and endless possibility. Inspired by countless visits to Mitch's Surf Shop on Pearl Street in La Jolla, this piece invites viewers into a place that was more than just a store—it was a gateway to adventure. As a young boy, I’d spend hours exploring the surfboards and skateboards, dreaming of the waves I’d conquer and the freedom of the ocean. Over time, Mitch became more than a shopkeeper; he became a friend, taking me on fishing trips and joining me out on the surf.

The shop’s windows symbolize my childhood aspirations, each one reflecting a different part of that world: perfect waves, the thrill of a new board, and the endless allure of the sea. The vibrant colors and textured brushstrokes convey the excitement and longing that filled my visits to Mitch’s. The parking lot line below reminds me of the starting point—just outside those doors—where the dreams began.

Pearl St Yearning isn’t just a memory; it’s a tribute to the spirit of adventure, friendship, and the dreams that shape who we are.

Depth of Löyly

Depth of Löyly captures the essence of the sauna experience, where layers of intense heat and steam envelop the body and soul. This piece explores both the physical and emotional depth of löyly, the steam that rises from heated stones, creating an almost mystical atmosphere. The textured whites and grays suggest the swirling, dense vapor, while hints of warmer hues—reds, oranges, and yellows—evoke the inner heat that seeps into the muscles, releasing tension and grounding the mind.

In this work, I aimed to reflect the transformative power of the sauna, where the boundary between body and air blurs, and one can find both relaxation and reflection in the embrace of the steam. Depth of Löyly invites viewers to feel the calm intensity of a sauna, offering a moment of pause, introspection, and connection to nature and self.

The interplay of muted blues, warm oranges, and shadowy grays captures the feeling of the world winding down, a serene close to a day’s intensity. This piece invites you into a quiet, introspective moment, where fading light allows for reflection and calm.

Requiem for Control

A structured grid of blues and neutrals contrasts sharply with the soft, organic lines of previous works, evoking a sense of order in Requiem for Control. The calculated layout, however, is softened by hinting at the limits of control in an inherently chaotic world. This piece is a meditation on the tension between precision and imperfection, a nod to the fragile balance we attempt to maintain in life. It invites you to ponder what it means to let go of control while honoring structure.

In Coriolis Schmoriolis, sweeping strokes of aqua, green, and hints of yellow swirl across a dark canvas, evoking the dynamic energy of a world in motion. Inspired by the Coriolis effect—the invisible force created by Earth’s rotation—the piece captures the chaotic beauty of natural forces at play. Bold, layered textures create a sense of depth, like turbulent waves or atmospheric currents, and invite us to imagine the swirling patterns that shape our planet. The playful title adds a touch of whimsy, hinting at a lighthearted approach to exploring big ideas through abstract forms.

Unwanted Companion

This piece is a deeply personal reflection on the weight of emotions that often linger uninvited—emptiness, depression, anger. The dark center, textured and heavy, represents these “unwanted companions” that settle in the heart and mind. The red and blue accents within the darkness signify the flashes of conflict, struggle, and fleeting moments of clarity amidst the chaos.

Surrounding the center, bursts of color and sweeping motions embody the world beyond—hope, distractions, or the attempt to move forward. Yet, no matter how vibrant the surroundings, the central presence remains, a reminder of what is often carried in silence.

Unwanted Companion invites viewers to confront their own relationship with these shadowed emotions, offering a visual conversation about resilience, self-awareness, and the beauty in expressing what words often fail to convey.

This piece speaks to the visceral side of emotion, the way unresolved feelings can hang like mist, coloring our view of the world around us.

The Squeeze

The Squeeze captures the visceral sensation of pressure—the moments when the walls feel as though they’re closing in, leaving little room to breathe. The layered, geometric forms press against one another, creating a visual narrative of confinement and compression. The vibrant palette juxtaposes the tension, suggesting resilience and creativity in the face of adversity.

The interplay of bold colors and tightly woven textures mirrors the complexities of human emotions during moments of stress. Each line and block seems to push against the next, reflecting the relentless forces we encounter in life. Yet, within this chaos, there’s a sense of structure and movement, suggesting that even under immense pressure, we can find beauty, strength, and balance.

This piece invites the viewer to reflect on their own experiences with confinement—be it physical, emotional, or mental—and to recognize the transformative potential that comes from enduring these moments. Fragmented Landscape

Fragmented Landscape was my attempt at experimenting with the concept of abstract landscapes, exploring how I could capture the essence of a place without being tied to traditional representation. I wanted to convey the raw energy and emotional pull of nature through bold textures and vivid colors, rather than focusing on precise details.

As I worked on this piece, I found myself drawn to the interplay between permanence and change—how mountains endure while skies shift and evolve. The greens and deep hues of the terrain are broken by bursts of orange, pink, and yellow light, creating a fragmented effect that mirrors the unpredictable, untamed beauty of the natural world. The sharp brushstrokes and layered textures were deliberate, reflecting my desire to evoke a sense of movement and dynamism within the landscape.

For me, this painting is less about depicting a specific scene and more about the feeling of being surrounded by nature’s power and imperfection. It’s a celebration of contrasts—the strength of towering peaks against the fleeting brilliance of light and color. This piece was a creative leap for me, and I hope it invites viewers to see landscapes as more than places, but as living, breathing forces filled with energy and emotion.

Just Blow

This piece is a celebration of instinct and raw emotion, reflecting the philosophy of letting go and simply creating. Inspired by the spirit of jazz—where improvisation transforms chaos into harmony—Just Blow vibrates with energy and spontaneity.

This painting is a tribute to beginnings, transitions, and the simplicity of savoring the now.

Discorded Serenity

Discorded Serenity delves into the juxtaposition of chaos and calm, capturing a fleeting moment where turbulence intrudes on tranquility. The swirling greens of the background evoke the natural rhythm of waves or wind—serene yet unsteady. This fluid motion is disrupted by an explosive burst of color in the foreground—a chaotic clash of reds, purples, and blacks that cuts through the composition like a storm breaking the surface of a calm sea.

The dynamic strokes and textured layering are intended to create a visceral sense of movement, pulling the viewer into the tension between opposing forces. It is a visual metaphor for the unpredictable shifts in our internal landscapes, where peace and discord coexist and influence one another.

This piece invites you to explore the delicate balance between control and upheaval, beauty and disruption. In its bold strokes and energetic palette, Discorded Serenity reminds us that harmony often arises not in the absence of conflict, but in the ability to navigate it.

FRAGMENTED BONDS

Fragmented Bonds explores the complexity of relationships and the dynamic interplay between connection and individuality. The geometric shapes in the upper right corner evoke a sense of structure and stability, while the incomplete form in the lower left represents the personal imperfections that make us human.

Between these elements lies a vibrant, chaotic mix of colors and strokes, reflecting the confusion, emotional nuance, and evolving nature of bonds that tie us together. The threads bridging the two shapes symbolize the delicate yet enduring connections that persist through challenges and growth.

This piece invites viewers to reflect on the layers of meaning in their own relationships, finding beauty in the intricacy and imperfection of shared experiences.
